Oilers Trade Brandon Davidson to Montreal

The Edmonton Oilers have completed a trade just prior to the March 1st NHL trade deadline sending defenseman Brandon Davidson to Montreal for David Desharnais.

Edmonton was looking to add some depth at center and while Desharnais has had a down year, he's got a track record of offensive skill and scoring and is traditionally a strong faceoff performer. Davidson is a good young defenseman, but the Oilers have some depth on their blue line and Davidson was most likely the player lost in the NHL Expansion Draft.

Desharnais is a pending UFA and it's not likely the Oilers will keep him around, but he is a motivated player and could help in the Oilers first return to the NHL playoffs in a decade.

Desharnais is an undersized forward who has four goals and six assists in 31 games this season. He is two seasons removed from a 48 and 52 point campaign.
